TPCA Honors Women’s History Month

March 1 – 31, 2024

This March, TPCA is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month as we remind ourselves and our patients of the accomplishments of women and recognize the vital role they played throughout American history. What began as a celebration of  “Women’s History Week” on March 7, 1982 quickly extended to become Women’s History Month in 1987. Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.”

We know our work is not done and the conversation about gender equality still remains prominent.

Throughout this month, we will feature some of the incredible women of Tallahassee Primary Care Associates.

Who is the most influential woman in your life?

My mother is the most influential woman in my life. She has always supported and motivated me to reach for my dreams. She has always lead by example and been selfless in taking care of her family. She motivated my sister and me to excel academically and be strong, independent women.

What would be your advice to other women entering the healthcare/medical industry?

My advice to other women in health care – Don’t be afraid of hard work. It is such rewarding work but do make time for yourself so that you can recover and recharge. Don’t be afraid to ask for help- We are all in this together and you will find a lot of people that will be just too willing to help. Prioritize sleep and rest.

Who is the most influential woman in your life?

My mother. I was adopted and a difficult and intensely energetic kid.  She accepted who I was and never gave up. She became my inspiration to persevere, be adventurous, receptive, and most importantly, to be kind.

What would be your advice to other women entering the healthcare/medical industry?

If you’re looking for something easy, this isn’t it.  Whether you’re a full-time student working, a working mom, or any career woman in healthcare, you’ll get exhausted being pulled in so many different directions. Invest in routine self-care time, so you’ll be prepared to take care of others.

Who is the most influential woman in your life?

My mom. She passed away in 2010 at 61 years of age. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and fought with courage for many years. Her love and emotional support she gave her family, even when she didn’t feel well was amazing. My mom may have lost her battle, but her strength during such a difficult time has encouraged my family to endure and conquer many of our own challenges over the years.

What would be your advice to other women entering the healthcare/medical industry?

If you find something that you’re passionate about, make sure your voice is heard. Don’t let others define you, it’s easy for others to label you or confuse your passion with negative descriptions.

Who is the most influential woman in your life?

My sister would probably be the most influential person in my life. She has always pushed me to be better and she has always made sure to take care of everyone she loves. Especially during these past couple of years, she has been my rock and I am so grateful for her.

What would be your advice to other women entering the healthcare/medical industry?

I would tell other women entering the medical field that even if things get rough, whether it be in school or in life, it is so important to just persevere. Everything will work itself out as long as you keep working hard and stay true to yourself.

Who is the most influential woman in your life?

My mom is the most influential person in my life. In my childhood years, she always made sure we had the best possible education. It is thanks to her that I gained the motivation to succeed and follow my passions.

What would be your advice to other women entering the healthcare/medical industry?

I would advise other women in the industry to always be proactive in the workplace. Once you set your mind to something, put in the work to accomplish it!
