Topics covered during a Trip Rx consultation include but are not limited to:
- Preventative medications
- Infectious disease information (ex. Malaria, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, etc.)
- Advance planning to prepare for and avoid travel-related illness and/or discomfort (ex. jet lag, altitude sickness, traveler’s diarrhea, etc.)
- Cultural diversity
- General safety and security (i.e. emergency contacts: local embassy, pharmacies, hospitals, etc.) and much more!
The Center for Disease Control recommends meeting with a travel health professional 4-6 weeks prior to traveling abroad. As travel can be stressful to the mind and body, we ask that you not only take time to see us, but also see your primary care provider before you travel (we recommend within 3 months of your trip). Coordination with our Trip Rx team and your primary care provider will help you feel assured that you are well-prepared for your travel adventure!
For your convenience, vaccinations and any medications needed and/or requested will be given at the time of your consultation. Please note that consultations are required for prescribed medications and the Yellow Fever vaccine. They are not required for most vaccines, although highly recommended. Those that elect to only attend our vaccine clinic will need to inform the scheduling staff of desired vaccinations at the time their appointment is scheduled. You will be informed at that time if a consultation is required for your desired vaccinations.
Tallahassee Primary Care Associates’ Trip Rx travel medicine program is proud to provide one of the largest selections of vaccines available in North Florida and South Georgia. We are also an honored member of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM).
